About Us

Our Founder

Jiro Fukushima, CEO of Kabukizakura (歌舞伎桜) Home Renovation and Japanese Gardens, is driven by his love for nature, craftsmanship, and art. He is a visionary, whose caring nature, ambition, optimism,  and attention to detail are evident in his work. Born in Japan, Jiro’s passion for nature and marine life inspired him to create harmonious spaces. A 19, he moved without any family or friends to Canada, in search of a new opportunity and a deeper connection to his love for nature and the ocean.

Early Career

In his early years in Canada, Jiro enrolled in an Aquaculture Technician Program to become a Fish Farming Technician. However, after completing his studies, Jiro realized that his true passion lay not in fish farming but in preserving the beauty of aquatic life in its natural habitat. This realization led him to try something different through operating his own business.

Determined to find a new opportunity and create something of his own, Jiro attended a small business fair in Toronto in 1998. At the fair, Jiro impressed the Koi (Japanese colorful carp) pond kit store owner with his expert knowledge about Koi learned from his college professor, and the owner immediately offered him a position. During his two years with the company, Jiro gained landscaping skills, working on both front and backyard projects. His natural craftsmanship and ability to learn quickly allowed him to take on larger-scale landscaping and exterior carpentry work.

Jiro’s ambitious nature drove him to expand his expertise in indoor renovations and interior design. Nearly 22 years ago, he Jiro launched his own landscaping and handyman business, drawing on his extensive experience and clear vision. Over time, as he honed his skills and deepened his knowledge in handyman services, Jiro expanded his offerings to include home renovations and interior design.

Japanese Zen Philosophy

With a vision rooted in his Japanese heritage and Zen philosophy, Jiro established Kabukizakura. The company focuses on creating harmonious interior and exterior designs by blending traditional Japanese elements with modern construction. Jiro’s expertise also enables him to incorporate Japanese construction materials and technologies into his projects, further enriching his designs with cultural depth.

Kabukizakura specializes in home renovations and the creation of serene Japanese gardens, blending aesthetic beauty with expert craftsmanship. Jiro’s journey is a testament to his dedication to craftsmanship, his deep love for nature, and his ability to transform spaces into peaceful sanctuaries. Kabukizakura is the embodiment of Jiro’s vision: blending aesthetic beauty with expert craftsmanship to create spaces that foster tranquility, harmony, and a deep connection to nature.

What “Kabukizakura” means

“Kabuki” is derived from the verb kabuku, meaning “to lean” or “to be out of the ordinary.” This reflects the original essence of kabuki as a form of avant-garde entertainment that was unconventional and flamboyant, appealing to the common people with its bold and dramatic style.

The word Zakura (Sakura) means cherry blossom blooms in early spring, representing renewal, rebirth, and the promise of new beginnings. It is often associated with starting afresh, coinciding with the start of the Japanese fiscal and school year in April.

Kabukizakura (歌舞伎桜), aims to create spaces that seamlessly blend aesthetic appeal, functionality, harmony, and the essence of Japanese cultural values.
